The Stumm tradition in the insurance industry dates to 1911, when Bernard J. (Bernie) Stumm of Yorkville, IL wrote his first insurance policy in Aurora, IL. Bernie was a well-respected man in the Aurora area, and had much success in providing insurance solutions to many high profile businessmen in the Aurora/Fox Valley area until his death in 1964.
Bernie's son Robert J. (Bob) Stumm went to work with his father in June of 1945, selling life insurance in the Aurora area. In 1963, Bob formed McWethy-Stumm insurance agency, which was later sold to a national brokerage firm in 1980. Bob retired to Florida in 1985.
In 1968, David J. Stumm Sr. started in the Life insurance business, prior to his graduation from Notre Dame. In 1972, Dave joined his father, Bob at the McWethy-Stumm agency. In 1982, Dave started his own agency in Chicago, and in 1990 he joined with John Larson and formed MML Associates LLC. Dave and John built a client base in the greater Chicago area, and found much success in working with employers in the 5-500 life range.
The tradition continued in 2007, when Dave Jr., Brian and Jim joined Dave Sr. to form Stumm insurance (Jack later joined in 2009). In addition to the current downtown Chicago location, a new branch was opened in Aurora in 2007, bringing full circle to the Stumm insurance tradition in the Aurora/Fox Valley area.
